Fiona Cristante - Visual Artist

I am a visual artist based in Australia, working with drawing materials, watercolour, and mixed media. My practice is rooted in close observation of the natural world focusing on the quiet, often overlooked details of foliage, growth, and organic patterns.

My interest in art began as a child and when at the age of ten, I received my first watercolour set—a gift that sparked a lifelong fascination with drawing and painting. Since then, I have sustained a committed practice across drawing, watercolour, and mixed media, continually deepening my engagement with the natural world through observation, memory, and mark-making.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Art and Visual Culture, as well as a Bachelor in Graphic Art, both of which have informed and enriched my visual language and conceptual approach. I explore the interplay between the micro and macro, weaving memory and landscape into my work. Walking in nature forms an integral part of my process, grounding my connection to my surroundings and allowing for a deeper engagement with the local environment.

Coastal bushland reserves offer a rich, immersive source of inspiration and visual research, while my garden provides a continuous site of enquiry and reflection. Back in the studio, I translate these experiences through line, colour, and memory responding intuitively to the rhythms and forms of the natural world.
